El maravilloso patchwork de Carrie Strine

Carrie Strine es una artista norteamericana afincada en Nueva York. Aunque está graduada en Fotografía, yo la he conocido por sus quilts, que me han enamorado.

Carrie Strine is an American artist who lives in New York. Although she is graduated in Photography, I’ve known her for her quilts, which I have fallen in love with.

Como podéis ver, su patchwork es moderno, pero con un punto tradicional tanto en los patrones como en la combinación de las telas, definitivamente modernas. Un maravilloso ejemplo es este "double wedding ring".

As you can see, her patchwork is modern, but with a traditional touch both in the patterns and in the combination of the fabrics, definitively modern. A wonderful example is this "double wedding ring".

Estoy convencida de que nuestras labores y manualidades reflejan nuestra personalidad, no sólo nuestros gustos. Por eso el blog de Carrie es exactamente como esperaba después de ver sus quilts. En él refleja su proceso creativo, explica por qué ha elegido un determinado patrón, los tejidos, los colores y estampados, la técnica,... Porque cada pieza la realiza en parte con la intención de seguir su camino de aprendizaje y experimentación.

I’m sure of that our crafts reflect our personality, not only our tastes. That’s why Carrie's blog is exactly as I thought after seeing her quilts. On it she reflects her creative process, explains why she chose a certain pattern, the fabrics, the colors and prints, the technique... Because she makes every work partly with the intent to make her way of learning and experimentation.

Me siento muy identificada cuando explica cómo su estado de ánimo la inclina en una u otra dirección, a veces a dejar trabajos a medias porque temporalmente no se siente a gusto con ellos. Con sus estupendas fotografías transmite muy bien sus sensaciones.

I’m much identify with her when she explains how her state of mind inclines her to one or another direction, sometimes to leave works in progress because she does not feel comfortable with them. With her marvellous photographies she transmits her sensations perfectly.

Y se agradece que haga referencia al origen de los patrones y las telas que emplea, permite recopilar ideas e inspiración. Por supuesto, en EE.UU. hay una oferta mucho más amplia que aquí, pero también es cierto que cada vez es más fácil adquirir material por Internet.

And it’s appreciated that she refers to the origin of the patterns and the fabrics that she uses, this allows to collect ideas and inspiration. Certainly, in the USA there is a much wider choice that here, but it’s also true that is becoming easier to buy stuff via the Internet.

Tutorial: pulseras / braceletes

Desde que mi hija hizo el curso de tejer con las manos no para y, claro, me pide ideas nuevas. Así que rescaté de mi memoria estas pulseras. Son muy fáciles de hacer, así que resulta una actividad estupenda para niños.

Since my daughter went to a workshop for knitting with the hands she doesn’t stop and, of course, she asks for new ideas. So I brought from my memory these bracelets. They are very easy to make, so it’s a marvellous activity for children.

Necesitamos pulseras de aro e hilo de tricotar de algodón; también podemos utilizar lana, pero en verano pica un poco.

We need some hoop bracelets and cotton thread for knitting; we also can use wool, but in summer it itches a bit.

Se trata de envolver la pulsera intercalando dos hilos de la siguiente manera (podéis pinchar en las fotos para verlas más grandes):

The question is to wrap the bracelet alternating two threads in this way (you can click on the photos to see them bigger):

Repetimos con otro punto del mismo color:

Repeat with another stitch of the same color:

Y cambiamos de color:

And then change the color:

Terminamos con un nudito y escondiendo el hilo del principio bajo las últimas vueltas.

End with a little knot and hide the starting thread under the last turns.
