Llegan las celebraciones de Primera Comunión. A mi me tocó el año pasado y fue un gran momento para mi hija y para mi. Ella llevó mi antiguo vestido renovado por mi, pero se pueden encontrar vestidos fantásticos, modernos, ligeros, pero sin perder su carácter. Éste de Nícoli me encanta.

La Pascua mediterránea / Mediterranean Easter

La Pascua es una de las épocas más alegres del año. En España la Semana Santa es muy importante, mientras que la Pascua pasa un poco desapercibida. Las personas mayores cuentan como se celebraba hace años: las chicas estrenaban vestido y zapatillas de vichy; las pandillas de jóvenes y las familias hacían un picnic en el campo en el que se comía la longaniza de Pascua y la mona y se volaban cometas.

Easter is one of the happiest times of the year. In Spain The Holy Week is very important, whereas Easter passes a little unnoticed. The elderly people tell us how it was celebrated years ago: girls wore new dresses and vichy shoes; groups of young people and families went picnic to the countryside and eat  Easter sausage and “mona” and many people used to fly kites.

La mona de Pascua es un dulce típico de la zona mediterránea que o bien lleva un huevo duro que la tradición manda que hay que cascar en la frente de otra persona, o bien lleva azúcar espolvoreado y se come con chocolate.

Easter “mona” is a typical sweet from the Mediterranean area with a hard-boiled egg in it  which has to be cracked on another’s forehead, so tradition says. Or instead it may have dusted sugar and then is usually eaten with chocolate.

Hoy en día se mantiene la tradición de comer la longaniza y la mona de Pascua. Las pastelerias compiten por hacer la figura de chocholate más espectacular, aunque lo típico es el conejo de chocolate que se compra a los niños.

Nowadays tradition of eating the Easter sausage and the “mona” are maintained. Bakers compete for making the most spectacular chocolate figure, though the typical thing is the chocolate rabbit for children.

Y en la Comunidad Valenciana es típico salir a volar la cometa o catxirulo, como se le llama en valenciano. En la ciudad de Valencia se celebra cada año en la playa, durante el primer fin de semana de Pascua, el Festival Internacional de Cometas. Nosotros solemos ir,  es espectacular.

And at the Valencian Community it’s typical to go flying kites or “catxirulos”, as they are called in  Valencian. In the city of Valencia the International Kite Festival is celebrated every year at the beach, during the first weekend of Easter. We use to go and it’s amazing.
